To each of you, my daughter, Elizabeth Lauricella, and I wish to extend our thanks and appreciation:

to Dr. Arthur's office for the recommendation of Dr. Sanson as a pediatrician should my visiting 12–month–old grandson, Henry, need any care while visiting from New York;

and to Dr. Sanson and her staff for that care when it was so urgently needed. The excellent advice during the Saturday, March 31, phone conversation with Susan guided us to the VVMC emergency room that evening. We shall be forever grateful for Dr. Sanson and her staff for allowing us to bring Henry and his 104.9 fever and croup into the office so suddenly for an afternoon of excellent care on Monday, April 2.

It is good to know we have such fine support in our community.

Sincerely,

Barbara C. Marshall September 3, 2002

Dear Dr. Sanson,

I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know how much we've enjoyed having you as our children's doctor and how very much we will miss you.

You are a wonderful and caring physician; you always took time with us, whether it was a sick call or a well checkup. You've always spoken "to" us and not "at" us as some doctors tend to do. You seemed to recognize us for what we were: intelligent, caring parents who wanted the best for their children. I believe it's because you are a parent yourself that you understood how to speak to us. You never looked at us askance (as most doctors did) when we chose to birth our children at home or when we questioned or even refused certain vaccinations.

Mark and I have no idea where we will begin to look for another doctor. You've meant a great deal to our family—and we'll miss you.

We wish you the best of luck in your new practice—they are blessed to have you.

Sincerely,

The Hunter Family
Mark, Cindy, Jeremiah, Jack, and Jed

• Temperatures of infants and young children are generally taken with a thermometer, placed under the arm or inserted in the rectum. Temperatures are taken by mouth (oral) only if the child is old enough to keep the thermometer under the tongue with the mouth closed and to avoid biting and possibly breaking the thermometer. Ask your doctor or nurse to teach you how to use and read a thermometer.

• Fever is best treated by giving your child more liquids to drink (water, clear juices, such as apple; or soft drinks such as ginger ale, lemon/lime). Lukewarm tub baths or sponge baths may also help bring the fever down. Fevers can also be treated with non-aspirin products.

• For fever prevention, a non-aspirin product such as Tylenol, Tempra, Liquiprin, etc. may be given. There are many non-aspirin (Acetaminophen) products available. Your decision to buy it in liquid or tablet form will depend on the age of your child. It is important that you carefully read the instructions included with the product to know how much you should give and how often it should be given. If you have questions, ask your doctor or clinic.

• A child with a fever lasting longer than 2 days or one which will not go lower than 101°F with treatment needs medical attention. Consult your doctor or clinic.
